I wanna give 3 years gap to our children

Good day mamas and papas in the house. No insult please, I just need advice from experienced and matured mamas in the house. I'm happily married and blessed with a beautiful daughter but hubby and I wanna give 3 years gap to our children, the problem here is hubby likes it raw, and my mum advised me not to go for family planning because she doesn't want any form of delay or side effects when I am ready to have my next child. I have used contraceptives secretly but the last time I used it I felt serious pain in my stomach...Please what's the side effect of contraceptives and what can I do to avoid getting pregnant for now till we re ready for more children.
