anonymous asked 1 month ago

Good day mamas and papas in the house, please I need your assistance on this. My mother-in-law has moved in with us after my husband announced to her that we are pregnant and this is our first pregnancy so she came to help out. The thing now is, ever since she came, she has been insisting that I go and register with all this iya Agbebi (Traditional Birth Attendant) but me I don't believe in it so I didn't go until my hubby also insisted that I go that that is where his mum had him and his siblings and nothing happened to them. I didn't want to be rude so I went. On getting there, the TBA told me that registration fee was N4000 and that I would be coming with N250 and a bottle of 1 litre every antenatel days for agbo (herbs). She said the 250 was for aseje and agunmu. After I registered, she gave me one black and white powder that she mixed in a paper and told me to be licking with warm water everyday. Since she gave me that thing last week, I have been staring at it because I don't even know what it is and I don't know if it is safe to use it. My MIL has been on my neck since asking whether or not I have used and when next I would be going to her for antenatal. I am really scared because I have never heard of TBAs till now. I have always been advised to go to the hospital because that is where all my sisters had their baby but I cannot disobey my husband and his mother to avoid problems. Please my sisters, kindly advise me on the safety of using these people, do I have anything to worry about and if there is anyone you can recommend that you have tested and you trust, I would appreciate it because I am really scared and this is my 3rd month already. Please help a first time mom thank you.
