Please advice a sister, I am 33 my fiancee just proposed to me and we have started planning our wedding, we are both from North central but our culture in marriage differ. I got to know few weeks ago that my family will be the one to handle the furnishing of our new home, like buying of sets of sofa, mattress and bed frame in fact everything that you will need to furnish a house including TV except curtains. Meanwhile in my own culture the reverse is the case, the bride family only buys their daughter all the kitchen stuff, food stuffs and also mattress. In some cases with financial assistance from the groom. Now we are planing to get married this year as its I can't even tell my family that, this is what they do, and even if I do we don't have that kind of money to do all that, and he also said he dsnt have money, that if he had he would buy them for me secretly without his family knowing . So after enough talk he later agree to buy only the set of sofa then my family will buy the remaining. even at that,the expenses will be much on me because I am going to be the one that will virtually buy my wedding stuff and maybe with little assistance from my family, though I have saved some money which I intend to use to get few things and keep the remaining in my account bcs I am not working at the moment and if I use all the money I saved it will still not be enough and I will be left with nothing after marriage. Another concern is that he is from a royal home, his family is with status and class, all their daughter inlaw comes into their house with foriegn kaya like turkey product of not less than 400k or more for just bed frame and wardrobe, it even like a competition for them and the family respects them for that pls what do I do?
