Mum Celebrates Her Daughter's First Period With A Surprise Party

When I was growing up, I was told that celebrating a girl's first period was something that was necessary as it was a rite of passage into womanhood.

In some Nigerian families, they will kill a chicken. Nowadays though, I wonder if mothers still celebrate their daughter's periods. As a modern Nigerian mother, you might find the idea of celebrating your daughter's first menses a little out-dated.

One US mother went as far as throwing a big surprise party, when her 12-year-old daughter Brooke got her first period.

Rather than discreetly leave a box of sanitary pads in her room, she instead decided to throw her daughter a surprise party. She bought a chocolate cake and multiple boxes of menstrual products. For her, the party was the perfect way to celebrate something totally natural and from the pictures it seems that Brooke loved it.

Would you do this?
