Can Baby's Name Affect Future Behaviour

Mamalette do you know that baby's name can have profound and lasting implications over the course of his or her life?

So while choosing your baby’s name is one of the joys of parenting, you should also realise that it is an important one, too, because your child will, in all likelihood, carry the name you choose forever.

The name you select can reflect the high hopes you have for your child and choosing an uncommon name for example, signals that you believe your child will go far in life by telling the world that your child is different.

David Figlio, an economics and education professor at Northwestern University in the US who has researched the effect of names on children advises parents to,

“Name your kids what you love, but be aware there are consequences.”

Dr Simon Laham of the University of Melbourne’s Psychological Sciences Academic Centre in Australia also admits that "names carry a lot of information.”

In a recent study in which he collaborated with researchers from New York University's Stern School of Business, he found that people with easy to pronounce names were more likable and more successful than those with hard to pronounce names.

A safe, easier to pronounce name may in fact prompt a child to excel in life, according to Dr Laham’s study.

In the study, the first and last names of 500 US lawyers were analysed and “it was found that those lawyers with the most pronounceable names were promoted faster than their unusually-named counterparts, even though they had comparable skills and experience,” says Dr Laham.

Interesting right?

Research has also shown the letters of a name can influence personal life decisions as significant as where you live, what you do for a living, even who you fall in love with.

Amazing!
