I Almost Got Defiled By A Family Member When I Was Sixteen

I am the first girl in a family of two girls, I am two years older than my sister but if you see us together you would think we are twins. We were on long holiday from school once, I was already in SS2 going to SS3 and my parents decided that we should spend our holiday with our aunt in Port Harcourt.

She also has a son who was in the same school and class as me so we were asked to go there so we could read well together and prepare for our upcoming WAEC exams. My parents are very big on education and whereas that was not my first time of staying with my aunt at PH but this time my aunt’s husband’s nephew was also around and had just finished secondary school and was awaiting admission so he also came to spend the holiday with them.

At first, I liked him because he was really cute and friendly but after a while, I started feeling uneasy around him because he was getting too friendly and was always touching me in sensitive areas. I told my sister and cousin and they birth said that they had noticed but he was just being a boy and I should just tell him to stop and ignore him.

The next time he touched me inappropriately, I told him to stop and he said that I was overreacting that he was just playing with me. From that day, I started keeping my distance from him but it was hard to do because we were living in the same house. I then noticed that he started getting unnecessarily close to my sister and I confronted him about it and told him to stay away from my sister.

Not long after we left PH and went home, I told my mum what happened and she said I did good, that I should always be careful when going to other people’s houses and that my sister and I should always look out for each other.

The reason why I am telling this story because we found out later that this guy defiled my cousin not long after we left. It could have been me or my sister, parents need to be very careful about where their kids go to or who they invite into their house.

Now that I am a mother, I am very careful about where I take my kids to even though they are boys. Research says One in 6 women and 1 in 33 men will be defiled in their lifetime and it is usually done by trusted people, we can never be too careful as parents.
