Children love holidays and can't contain their excitement but it can be tiring for the mom who has to handle them all. Last year December, I entered the bus with a woman and I had to pity her, she had 4 children, she backed one, lapped one and the other two occupied a seat. While she was cautioning the two to keep still, the baby she backed was flying up and giggling excitedly while the toddler was whining that he wants to be backed too. By the time they alighted from the bus, she was already looking worn out yet the day had just started, imagine all the trouble those kids will give her before the day ends.
Here are ways to contain your kid's excitement during the holiday and still have a wonderful time;
1. Keep to the normal routine
That they are on holiday doesn't mean they can break all the rules, sleep late at night, wake up in the afternoon and so on. All your regular activities should be maintained, this will help contain their excitement and stabilize their behaviour.
2. Avoid giving extra sugar as treats
I know treating children to sweet things during holidays is the norm but giving cookies, candy, chocolate and other sugary snacks can give them extra burst of energy that they don't need and as the effect of the sugar wears off, fatigue sets in. And this high and low body reaction can lead to behavioural problems. Let them eat less of sugar.
3. Limit walking when shopping
I know children love walking about shopping malls, but even they can get tired by the time they walk the length of the supermarket and start throwing tantrums and crying for no reason. Take your children with you on a stroller and shop early before the mall gets crowded.
4. Be safe
Whether you are going out or partying indoor, pack away anything that can be hazardous to a child's health, some people might come visiting with their little kids who might be curious cats and get themselves injured in the process of poking and touching things. So put safety measures in place.
It's that time of the year to have fun, have fun and be safe with the tips above! Have a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!!!
