Motherhood is all about multitasking. While breastfeeding, you get to relax and bond with your baby and if you are already in tune with the task, then it's time you multitask and make the most of this time with your baby.
While you are relaxed and breastfeeding your baby, there's a lot more you can do, here are things you do while breastfeeding your baby;
1. Eat
Breastfeeding mothers rarely have the pleasure of calmly eating their food, most times we eat our food where it's cooked. While baby is feeding, eat your food too. Meanwhile, remember to eat a nutritional food, eating a balanced diet will keep your energy level up and your sugar levels balanced.
2. Sing and chat to your baby
Breastfeeding time is bonding time between mother and child, your baby would have been listening to your voice in the womb, now that baby is here, when breastfeeding, sing and chat to your baby, while doing this maintain eye contact with your baby.
3. Drink water
While breastfeeding, have a jug of water around, sip on water as you breastfeed. Breastfeeding mothers should consume around 3 litres of water per day. As your body needs to be fueled by water so be in the habit of putting a jar filled with water with you when breastfeeding.
4. Read a book or magazine
If you have a book, newspaper or magazine you want to read, this is the best time to read it when baby is occupied. Once baby finish feeding, if he doesn't go back to sleep, you might not be able to catch up on reading again.
5. Bond with your other children
If you've not been having much time to play with your other kids, this is the time to do it. Chat with them, play with them, or give them play ideas and talk about their day in school. Spend time with them so they can feel the love.
6. Rest and relax
And if all you want to do is rest your tired head, then do it! To fully relax yourself, concentrate on your breathing and your baby’s breathing. You can close your eyes and breath to relax too, but never, ever fall asleep while feeding baby. Unless someone else is watching out for your baby.
Breastfeeding time is a special time for baby and you, and it may feel uncomfortable at the start, you'll get into the rhythm with time.
