5 Things To Teach Your Child When They Start To Talk

Kids don't learn to talk properly until they are around age two, long after they start learning how to walk.

There are things you have to teach your child. And these are the 6 things you should teach your child as soon as he starts talking;

1. Learning their phone number and address

Let your child know the house address and phone number by heart. As soon as he could memorise nursery rhymes begin teaching him. When taking him to school or going out you can sing the number while he sings along. After a few weeks, he should know it by heart. And you can use the nursery rhyme your child loves the most to teach it to him. Start with your phone number, the address of where they live and their surname. This is important in case of any sort of emergency.

2. Who to call in an emergency

After teaching your child your phone number, it is also important to teach them at least one other number of a family member to call and an emergency number. Also, teach them how to dial a number.

3. Personal care

Teach your child how to dress himself, make their everyday clothes and shoes simple so that they can find it easy to dress themselves up. No shoe laces and too many buttons that will be too complicated for them to work. In teaching them how to dress, you are teaching them responsibility and how to take care of themselves. Keep their wears in a place where they would be able to find them and put them back when they get back home.

With time, you can start teaching them how to work on the complicated ones like buttons, zippers and shoelaces.

4. Personal safety

The rate at which children are abused is alarmingly high these days, so the need to have the “who can touch you where” conversation with your kids is more important now than ever. Therefore, you need to have this talk with them when they are quite young. To help you teach this lessons to your children, there are books and videos that will be a great help. While you are at it, you can practise a scenario like a drama.

5. Road safety

The road safety rules for your children may differ depending on your lifestyle. The rule number one is holding hands and never breaking off is rule number two. Then other rules may be put in place, such as no running, never going near a road, any road without the guidance of a grown up.

Children who are trained early on tend to be wise and self sufficient, so if you did a good job of training your first born you will not have a problem training the others, he/she will be a great help. So as soon as your child starts talking train these things to him.
