It's one thing to feed your child, it's another to feed them the food they need to grow healthy. Often you'll hear mothers say "this boy isn't growing and he eats like termites" at other times the child will be growing obese, you need to ensure that your child eats a balanced and healthy diet.
Here are the 5 types of foods you should include in your child meals daily;
1. Grains
Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal are grains. Bread, pasta, noodles, oats, and other breakfast cereals are easy to prepare and filing for your child. Feeding your breakfast cereals is the best way to include grains in their meals. Whole grains are especially packed with nutrients such as protein, fiber, vitamin B, antioxidants.
2. Dairy Products
Diary products are the best sources of calcium and calcium is needed for a healthy, strong bone and teeth. Diary products include milk, egg, cheese, yogurt etc. Include diary foods in your child's food daily as they not only provide calcium, they also contain fats and other vitamins.
3. Fruits
Fruits as you might already know before are good sources of vitamins and many phytonutrients. They help prevent constipation and make your child's skin glow, give your child two different types of fruits daily. Instead of biscuit and sweet, you can give them fruits as snacks.
4. Meat, chicken and fish
Proteins are responsible for building and repairing tissues in the body for this reason, your child needs protein meat, fish and other seafood, chicken, diary foods, moi moi, nuts, pork, beans, soya, are good sources of protein. Do not fry your meat, fish or chicken to retain the nutrients.
5. Vegetables
Vegetables are good sources of vitamins, minerals and has many benefits to the body so your child needs to eat lots of vegetable you therefore need to include vegetables in your child's meal everyday. Make salad at home, try to add nuts and mayonnaise to salads to make it more appealing to kids.
Reduce the amount of junks your child eats, give them vegetables and fruits as snacks instead, your child may love snacks but it adds no benefit to them but rather can cause them to be obese and probe to diabetes. carbohydrates like potatoes, pasta and brown rice are good for your child too.
A proper meal at the end of the day should have at least one of the things we've mentioned above for example cereals with milk in the morning (banana as fruit), pasta with egg in the afternoon, apple as fruit, and in the night, semo with vegetable and fish everything is included.
