C-Section

Going through labor and having a vaginal delivery is a long process that can be physically grueling and hard work for the mother. But one of the benefits of having a vaginal birth is that it has a shorter hospital stay and recovery time compared with a C-section. Having a C-section also increases a woman's risk for more physical complaints following delivery, such as pain at the site of the incision and longer-lasting soreness.

Getting Pregnant

If you're not breast-feeding, ovulation usually doesn't return until at least six weeks postpartum for most women. ... Because of this, she might miss signs that she is ovulating if she is trying to avoid pregnancy. This is how some women can get pregnant without even having their periods back between pregnancies.

The possibilities of ovulating during the first 6 weeks of giving birth are usually very low, but they are not impossible at all. Soon after the postpartum bleeding ceases and the mother isn't exclusively breastfeeding, she may resume her ovulation at around 10 weeks after she has given birth.

While there are many causes of infertility, a blockage of the Fallopian tubes is often the reason why many women are unable to conceive. The Fallopian tubes are the pathways in which the ova travel from the ovaries down into the uterus, and if there is a blockage in these tubes it can prevent this from occurring. Tubal surgical procedures can either be done by open abdominal surgery or laparoscopy (small incision). Massage is another natural therapy that could help support fallopian tube health. Massage helps to increase circulation and break up adhesion. Massage provides a great non-intrusive option for women with blocked fallopian tubes.

Vaccines, like any medicine, can have side effects. For most vaccines, serious side effects are extremely rare. The risks of vaccines are much lower than the risks of the diseases they prevent.

Different vaccines have different side effects, most of which are mild. They include:

  • temporary pain
  • redness, swelling, or soreness where the shot was given

These side effects happen in one out of four children who receive vaccinations. They appear shortly after the shot is given and should go away after one or two days. If these symptoms persist, talk to your child's doctor.

Everyone sheds weight at their own pace. Many factors have been proven to affect your weight loss journey — including your age (your metabolism slows down by about 2 percent every decade after age 25, so you burn fewer calories at rest as you age), your diet (when you eat more protein than carbs and eat larger meals earlier in the day, your body burns more calories and works more efficiently), activity level (the more you move, the more calories you burn), and your natural metabolism, which is determined by your genes.

Second Trimester

Doctors recommend that you avoid sleeping on your back after your first trimester because it causes you to unintentionally focus your weight on a major vein that moves blood to the heart from your feet and legs, which in turn forces the heart to work harder. But doctors also tend to be quick to tell you not to worry about it if you wake up and find that you've rolled onto your back. Changing positions while you snooze is normal, and losing sleep over whether you're in the right position doesn't do anyone any good.

That said, it's recommended that you train yourself to sleep on your side—ideally your left one because the position improves blood flow throughout your body, including to your uterus and fetus. Using body and regular pillows as sleep props is a great way to help you get and stay as comfortable as possible during the coming months.

Expressing is a way of taking breastmilk from your breast without your baby needing to suckle. You can do this by using:

  • your hands
  • a manual pump
  • an electric pump

Once you've expressed your milk, you can store it in the fridge or freezer to feed to your baby later, if you don't need it straight away.
You can feed your baby expressed breastmilk by syringe, spoon, cup or bottle. You may need your midwife's guidance to start with, but you'll soon find out what works best for your baby.
