Parenting is already tough for anybody, it is one of the most important and satisfying responsibility you would ever have. But if you think parenting is hard, try juggling parenting and working. A majority of Nigerians are working parents and so they always have to juggle parenting and work, here are some tips on how to juggle both parenting and work successfully:
-
Let Go of the Guilt: Rather than dwell on how you're not with your child, think about how your role in the company is benefiting the family.
-
Include Your Spouse: Some women think they are supposed to take the bulk of the parenting responsibility which is not meant to be so. You would have to include your spouse so both of you can jointly take responsibility for parenting your child. Communication and a willingness to sacrifice and compromise are vital in making this work. Demand for help because you cannot do everything on your own. If you are not married, get help from trusted friends and relatives.
-
Get Trusted And Reliable Childcare: Most parents would tell you that they would have not been able to juggle both work and parenting if they did not have a nanny or daycare for their child(ren). With recent development a lot of people are skeptical about childcare, so when using child care make sure you are still very observant.
-
Know Your Priorities: You have to know what is more important to you at all times. Even in the midst of knowing whats important to you, you also have to make sure that one does not suffer for the other.
-
Manage Your Commitments: When you’re at work, you’re at work. Be focused on completing your work and doing it to the best of your ability. When you’re at home, be at home and be focused on being the best parent ever to your child. Don’t bring home your baggage or issues from work to and dump it on your children to deal with.
-
Take Care Of Yourself: Remember to take some time to rest and take care of yourself. This way you can continue to be there for your child or children and be productive at work.
Try to always stay connected with your children even when you're not together, make sure you work on having special events and occasions to have with your family and in the midst of this all don't neglect your spouse make sure to have that alone romantic time.
