Tips To Help You Ensure Your Child Is Potty Trained Successfully

It is always a very big relief when a child is finally potty trained as it saves the mom the stress of wearing a diaper for the child and also saves money from not having to buy diapers.

Potty training can be difficult and messy and it requires a lot of patience. Here are ways to get a child potty trained properly.

Make Sure The Child Is Ready

I remember when I started potty training my son, he will mess up the whole place and I had to scrub and clean the house so many times.

Telling him to use his potty was always a joke to him back then but as he grew older, he won’t pee or agree to pee in his diaper anymore even if I force him to. He will insist I should take out his diaper for him to pee or poo. And then, I knew he was ready. A few weeks after that day, he will be the one to go and do his business all by himself.

People will  pressurize you to potty train your child but since it really depends on your child. Trust me, you’ll know when it is the right time.

Carry Everyone Along

Since my boy started school early, they started the potty training from school before I introduced it. It was the teacher that wrote me a note that they’ve started potty training at school and I should incorporate it at home too. So I was carried along of when his training started. We were all on the same page which made it easier to train him.

Stay With The Child

My son will always want me to stay with him whenever he is on the potty. He wants someone to watch over him. Whenever I try to leave him alone, he will stand up. I would rather stay with him no matter how long it is as this is easier than having him pooping all over the house.

Make The Potty Accessible

Don’t hide the potty in a place where the child won’t be able to find it on his own. If it’s in a place that is easily accessible, he won’t have difficulties trying to locate it. Let it have a constant location where he can always find it so as to avoid having poop accident.

Buy A Fun Potty

Potty are not boring as they use to be back in the days anymore. They now come in beautiful and attractive colours that fascinate the child enough to convince them to use it. Some even come with toys or cartoon characters that will always entice the child to use it.

Be Prepared For Nighttime Training

Night time training is different from that of the day time. Once your kid has their daytime potty training worked out, doing it at night will be another challenge. Your kid might also wet the bed, especially if they’re scared of going to the bathroom alone at night, so make sure to prepare for that as well. Be always prepared to assist them to the potty during the night time.

Things To Take Note Of When Choosing A Daycare For Your Child

Most working class mother would tell you that the key to them being able to keep their sanity when working is having a good childcare/ daycare center to take their child. Most mothers take their children to a particular daycare center based on referral from other moms that also use or have used the daycare center before.

However even when you get the best referrals there is still a lot of anxiety attached to leaving your child in the care of most times a total stranger. So when enrolling your child in a day care center to make the process smoother here are some things to take note of when doing your research;

  • Safety and security should be the first and most important thing to take note of. Look to see if the building and equipment are in good repair. A security system is important to make sure that only authorized people can come and go, and all entry and exit activity is monitored.
  • Cleanliness is also a high priority. Caregivers should encourage children to wash their hands often, especially after using the restroom and before eating. Caregivers should lead by example and follow the same procedures, especially after changing diapers.

  • You want to make sure your child is in a kind, loving environment and know that someone is dedicated to attending to your child’s needs. Listen for laughter and conversation between children and teachers.

  • Children should be engaged in active learning through play. It is important that the children have interesting things  with which to explore, read and interact.

  • Look for an environment where the teachers and administrators respect your home culture and language.

  • Check the qualifications of the director and teachers, and make sure they are held to high standards. It is a plus if the staff has specialized training in child development, and if lesson plans and daily schedules are posted and clearly available for parents to read. It is important that enough trained adults are available at all times.

  • Consistent, clear communication between the center staffs and you is necessary.

  • References go a long way. It is notable if the center can help you check references by providing contact information  for current or past enrolled families.

Being a mom will teach you a lot about trusting your gut feeling even after doing all the required research if your heart doesn’t go with the daycare then it’s best to not put your child there. Some people will tell you that you are being too paranoid and suspicious but it is always to be safe than sorry.
