I have been going out with my girlfriend for 2 years and and I love her very much. There is no doubt that I want to marry her. Her father is a very nice man, he has a lot of money. I come from an humble home, my father worked as a civil servant before he retired and my mother is a nurse. He has always been generous with us, which sometimes makes me feel ashamed because in a way I want to support my girlfriend with my money. But I can’t compete, I can’t buy her a new car or take her on trips abroad, so I just close my eyes, do what I can and work hard to also make it.  Of recent her father called me to come to his office, at first he started asking me about work, my interests etc. Then he asked me why I haven’t married his daughter yet.
I didn’t really know what to so I said I haven’t really thought about it.
He said he knew that she wants to marry me and that I don’t have to worry about his approval because I have it. This conversation was very uncomfortable for me and he must have taken that as me being uncertain if I wanted to marry her because he then said he could give me money if that would convince me to marry her. He told me to think about it and not tell my girlfriend. Now I feel like I should just break up with her. How can I a father offer a man money to marry his daughter. Is this normal?
