Question Category: General I am disappointed with the gift my husband gave me for my birthday
Anonymous asked 6 days ago

My husband is a very rich man. We have been married for 5 years. Every year when I celebrate my birthday he will buy me expensive gifts for example in our first year he bought me a brand new car. One year he bought me a very expensive designer handbag, other gifts included a trip to Dubai etc. Even last year he gave me an expensive wrist watch.
Me too or all of his birthdays, I have tried to go “all out”, even when I don’t have the finances. I usually make a nice breakfast, give him a card and love letter, take him out to dinner, and usually a pretty nice gift if finances allow.
My birthday was last week and I was dissapointed with what he gave me. I am even sure he forgot all about it because the day before my mother called him and greeted him in Yoruba ‘Eku Ipalemo’ which is probably why he remembered. I saw his face when she brought my birthday up, it was like “oh shit”. So the next morning when we woke up he wished me a happy birthday. He then brought out a card that had a short message in it and a bag with 6 years of Ankara material. Now I don’t want to sound petty… But usually he gets me a pretty nice gifts, so I was kind of surprised by seeing just a card and Ankara. I guess I’m just kind of disappointed with the amount of effort he put into my birthday. I have not said anything to him but I am really dissapointed. I know he has the money or am I being unreasonable?

I don’t get. You should be grateful and happy that you have a husband who buys you gifts on your birthdays. So, just because he got you a card and an ankara, u are disappointed? Jeez…My dear, there are many out there (especially children
) who are homeless, who don’t even have food to eat, not to talk of the clothes they would wear or even a place to lay their heads. Let me tell you how myself and my hubby celebrate our birthdays. We go to the orphanage, donate clothes, provisions and cash and we are always happy doing that because, we end up putting a smile on these children’s faces and that gives us satisfaction. We don’t have much but we help in the little way we can. So my dear, just be happy and contented with that gift ok, show him appreciation. You are really a lucky woman. Stop complaining and enjoy your gift.
