Last week, the entertainment industry in Nigeria was saddened by the death of Adenike Ogungbe, the CEO of Ewar Makeover who died after giving birth to her baby girl.
As a mother, Im saddened that another woman had to lose her life to bring a child into the world. Many of us might know or might have heard of someone who has died as a result of childbirth. In fact the MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate) for Nigeria is the 2nd highest in the world after India at 630 per 100,000 live births.
One would hope that a high profile death like this would influence our leaders to do more than pay lip service to ending the high rate of mortality during childbirth in the country.
RIP beautiful Adenike.

The maternal mortality rate (MMR) is the annual number of female deaths per 100,000 live births from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy or its management (excluding accidental or incidental causes). The MMR includes deaths during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, for a specified year. CIA World Factbook
