It is always nice and refreshing to publish stories like this.

Everyday in Nigeria, some parents abandon or dump their children because of one reason or the other. This was the same fate that befell Chidinma Sunday who was abandoned at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) where he was admitted, 20 years ago.

PM News reports that when Chidinma was admitted at LUTH on 24 March, 1994, he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and he was paraplegic.

Cerebral palsy is a term which encompasses a set of neurological conditions that cause physical disability in human development – they affect the brain and nervous system.

Chidinma was found with a note indicating that he was abandoned by his parents because they had no money to treat him.

Through the help of LUTH and other well meaning Nigerians, Chidinma attended primary and secondary schools.

PM News also states that the LUTH management provided medical care and an enabling environment for him to return to the hospital whenever he was on holiday.

However when he had difficulty in attending university, help came his way again after an article written by Corporate Service Division of LUTH and published in Punch newspaper drew attention to Chidinma’s plight.

After reading the article, a Nigerian, who does not want his name mentioned, decided to assist Chidinma and facilitated his admission into the Ben Idahosa University, Benin, Edo State, to study English Language

PM News reports that he commenced his studies at the University in November 2013.

“I am excited about overcoming my challenges. I thank LUTH and other Nigerians for their support,” Chidinma told P.M.NEWS in a phone interview.

We wish him the very best!
