5 Things That Could Be Causing Your Headache A headache is no friend to the human body, when you have a headache your productivity decreases, your head is banging and it also affects your wellbeing. If you find yourself reaching for paracetamol or Ibuprofen at the end of work every day then there might be some other explanation for your constant headache. This might be a good time to check your lifestyle, so you won’t become addicted to taking pain killers all the time. And here are a list of things that could be causing your headache; 1. Food and drink Unknown to you, some foods and drink can actually cause headaches, taking too much coffee can cause headaches. Some people may notice that when they haven’t had enough coffee they have a headache, that’s a sign of caffeine withdrawal. Coffee is not bad, but when it gives you a headache that means you are taking too much of it or you are addicted. Which means you have to limit the intake. Also, food additives and sugar, that contain amines can trigger a headache. Old, fermented or over cooked foods are high in amines and can trigger a headache. So whatever you eat, take note of it, so that when you have a headache, you’ll be able to pinpoint the last food you ate before the headache started. 2. Dehydration Headaches caused by dehydration are very common and comes with other symptoms like dry mouth, fatigue, nausea and a throbbing pain in your temple (that flat area in front of each ear). Physical activities that demand a lot of work make you lose a lot of fluid, meanwhile, our brain tissue loses water when we are dehydrated, it then shrinks our brain and cause it to pull away from the skull, resulting in headache. So keep yourself hydrated, don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. 3. Medication Some drugs have a headache as a side effect, so before you take any drugs check the side effects to see if a headache is one of the side effects. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take the drug, but if you develop a headache after taking the drugs you would know why. 4. Eye strain If you spend more than 2 hours staring at your computer, you could be suffering from computer vision syndrome (CVS) and the side effect is a headache. The condition might be aggravated if you have uncorrected vision problem before, I’ll advise you visit your optometrist to see what’s up. Meantime, take a break from your computer, blink rapidly and install an anti-glare shield on your computer if need be. 5. Stress I’m sure you know that stress is the major cause of headaches. Not getting adequate sleep is another form of stress which can cause a headache. When we are stressed or don’t get enough sleep, we won’t be producing enough melatonin which allows the body to rest and be refreshed. Experts advise that you sprinkle your bath water with Epsom salt which is believed to help reduce tension and relax the muscle. Or you can take magnesium supplements.
