When faced with trials in life, we all react differently yet we all have to face trying times in life to be able to get to the next level, how then do we react so we don’t miss this great test?

Once when a woman called up her spiritual father and was complaining to him about how miserable her life is,

“My life is miserable and right now I feel like dying” “Shame has taken over the excitement I felt when I got married, my MIL has given me an ultimatum that if I don’t conceive before the end of this year, I’m leaving her son’s house”

The pastor immediately told her to come to the mission house, she got to his house and met him in the kitchen. He put three pots of on fire, the first one contained an egg, the second a potato, and the third ground coffee beans. He sat down and instructed her to do the same as they waited for the three to come to a boil.

She was perplexed, not knowing exactly what the pastor was doing but she sat down anyway, not wanting to disrespect the man of God. After about 30 minutes, he turned off the fire, took out the potato and the eggs then placed them on a plate.

“What has happened to this two?” The pastor asked her “They are cooked, obviously” She replied

He then instructed her to unshell the egg, then touch both the egg and the potato, she did and observed that the potato broke when she touched it while the egg had hardened.

“Sip the coffee” he instructed again, when she did, it’s sweet aroma engulfed her and brought a smile to her face.

“Pastor, what does this mean?” She asked perplexed

“This three, the egg, potato and coffee beans were put through the same adversity: boiling water, yet the three reacted differently. The potato which was hard before it became soft in hot water, the egg which was very fragile and soft became hardened when it was in hot water. And the grounded coffee? When exposed to hot water, it changed the water and brought out a sweet smell, bringing out the best in itself.

Which of this are you? Will you let this adversity you are facing break you down into someone you are not just like the potato? Harden you and make you heartless like the egg? Or will you make the best of the situation, and come out sweeter and better than you were?

When faced with adversity in life, you have a choice, do not let life’s adversity harden your softness, break you down into the opposite of yourself but rather let it renew you into your very best. So Mamalette! Which are you when adversity comes? Potato, egg or coffee beans?
