Did you just give birth to your baby and those stretch marks and acne are threatening to be permanent friends with your skin? Good news! They are only temporal and if you take adequate measures your body will be back to normal.

When your baby is born, you may be too busy taking care of him, but if you can take 10 minutes of the little time you have and take care of your body, then in no time, it will come back to it’s normal post-pregnancy state.

Skin problems you have to tackle after giving birth

I want to guess that here’s what your skin is going through and I’ve listed some things that will best help you manage it. A little more attention has to be paid to your body after giving birth;

1. Acne

When you are pregnant, high progesterone levels can cause your skin to become excessively oily which then results in acne breakouts. After having a baby, even if your body was clear of acne throughout your pregnancy, acne may suddenly break out, so don’t be surprised.

What to do:

  • Clean your face every day with a cleanser twice a day.
  • Apply oil-free moisturizer both morning and night.
  • Use mild scrub, once in a week.
  • And remember to use mild or natural ingredients like aloe Vera and eucalyptus.

2. Pigmentation

That dark spot or patch on your skin is called pigmentation or melasma. These are caused by high levels of estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy. After delivery, the dark patches on your body or the line that runs below your belly will fade away on its own.

What to do:

  • A year after the birth of your baby, the black spot on your face is likely to disappear.
  • So as not to aggravate the black spot when you go out into the sun, use a sunscreen daily.
  • Also, use moisturizers that are specially made for pigmented skin.

3. Dark Circles And Puffy Eyes

Changes in hormones and lack of sleep after having a baby are the primary cause of puffy eyes. The tiredness in your body shows through your eyes.

What to do:

  • Drop everything and sleep when baby sleeps
  • Drink more water (at least 8 glasses a day) and eat healthy.
  • Also, you can use an eye cream specifically designed to target dark circles and puffy eyes.

4. Stretch Marks

Yeah right! Stretch marks are very stubborn to get rid of. It is caused due to the stretching the of skin. When you are finally deliver your baby, your body will suddenly contract, causing the skin to develop tears and crying in certain areas like the breast, stomach, thighs, and behind the knee.

What to do:

  • The best way to deal with the stretch marks is to avoid getting it at all. As soon as you are pregnant, start using moisturizers rich in olive oil or an anti-stretch mark cream in the said problem areas.
  • Focus on your belly and breasts (do not let any cream touch your nipple).
  • However, if you already have stretch marks, use a “tested and trusted” anti-stretch mark cream on the problem areas.
  • Also, eat healthy, and exercise a lot, after you are certified “good to go” by your doctor, start mild exercises like brisk walking, light exercises or yoga to help you reduce the stretch marks.

In all, do not push yourself too much, the changes did not just appear overnight, gradually let your body come back to it’s pre-pregnancy form, and if it’s taking forever, don’t despair, keep trying.
