Hosting friends and family this Christmas? It can seem like a big task to host your loved ones, feed and entertain them, decorate the house and make Christmas a memorable event for everyone.
It can leave you feeling tired and out of energy, but by making a list of everything you have to do, and breaking the task down it will be easier for you. And if anyone wants to help, all you have to do is show them the list and tell them how to help. Take a look at this
Your household
Cleaning is important also make sure there are chairs for everyone to sit on. Provide drinks and food for everyone and if you think some people might want to sleep over, then provide somewhere for them to sleep.
- Make sure that everyone coming will have somewhere to sleep.
- Make sure you have extra spoons, forks, plates, and glasses for everyone.
- Get everything you’ll be needing for setting the tables, that is if you have to.
- Make provisions to put every of the leftovers into the fridge or freezer.
- Check your first aid box to be sure it’s well equipped and if not add to it.
- If you think some visitors will be sleeping over, get extra beds, and covers.
- Clean up the spare rooms and get them ready for use.
- Tidy up the house, make it clean.
- Will your visitors be bringing their cars? Where will they park?
Presents
Are you getting gifts? And how many people are you getting it for? It’s not a must that you give gifts to everyone.
- If you got something for your mother-in-law and didn’t get any for your mother, you might want to use your discretion in giving it to her.
- If you didn’t get anyone gifts, at least, get gifts for your husband and children if you can afford it.
- Tell your husband about your plan so he can also get you and the kids gift, then you can exchange the gifts on Christmas morning.
Christmas meal
It will be hard for you to know the exact number of people that you will be feeding. Plan the meal for Christmas morning and make that one elaborate because even uninvited visitors will come. The dinner, however, shouldn’t be that much since most people will return to their houses that day.
- Decide what meal you’re preparing on time, think of how many people will be eating, then draw out a budget.
- Make a shopping list of everything you’re going to buy, without excluding even the nylon for wrapping the semolina.
- Plan for a last minute trip to the supermarket, think of the nearest one and someone who can do that for you.
- Organise some snacks for the guests to munch on.
Entertainment
There’s nothing much to entertainment, if there are going to be games for the kids, find someone to anchor the games. There’s definitely going to be music.
- For the music to keep playing on without anyone having to be standing up to work on it, set up a playlist of Christmas songs.
- I’m sure you won’t be thinking of watching your favourite TV show on that day, but if you do, set a reminder so you can watch it when it’s time.
- Get drinks ready, alcohol for the drinkers and soft drinks also, keep them chilled in the fridge or freezer.
- Get someone to host the game for the young ones. They can also play a card, and board games.
- Rent a generator if you don’t have one. If you do, fuel it.
- Have a place where you’ll store your food and drinks.
Prepare everything now so that, that way you won’t be too stressed up to enjoy the day. And keep away the guests that always want to pack everything and take them to their house away from your food store. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year in Advance! Enjoy!
