How To Make Coconut Oil From Scratch

Coconut oil has so many health benefits and uses, it can be used in cooking, skin care and hair care, virgin coconut oil is the most quality oil and although you can buy it, I usually prefer to make it myself as you never know, they might have diluted the one sold in the market.

So here's how to make virgin coconut oil;

Buy a fully developed brown coconut (I usually buy 5 or 6 depending on your need). Remove the back with knife, be careful so you don't hurt yourself. Shred the coconut into small pieces so it will be easy to blend.

Blend it: Blend it while adding hot water so it can help it blend smoothly. If you are blending it with your blender you might have to grate it for easy blender unless it's high powered. And if you can't use a blender, take it to the local mill to get it smoothly blended.

Filter the coconut milk:

After blending the coconut, use a scarf or cotton to squeeze the milk into a bottle, after sieving it the first time, add small warm water to it and sieve again to get every last drop. Blend it again and repeat this process.

Boil the coconut liquid

Place a pot on a burner, pour the coconut liquid into it and turn the heat to medium level. Boil it while stirring constantly until the water has dried up and the cream has separated from the oil and turned brown. The process of boiling might take some time, be patient and stir constantly.

Another way to do it is to place the coconut liquid in a bowl, cover it tightly with something then leave it inside a cold room for four hours, by then the curd should rise up and the water should be below, scoop out the whitish paste at top into pot, boil this while stirring, the oil will separate from the curd.
