The rate at which maids are committing crime is alarmingly high and it’s not just here in Nigeria, there was a recent story where a house help kidnapped the children of her boss and was demanding for millions of naira in return for them (This happened here in Nigeria). And since such occurrence are rampant, the question is do we really need them?
Sometime this year, a video of a housemaid maltreating her boss’ child went viral, in the video the house maid was stamping on the kid because the kid refused to eat her food. And when she was interviewed, she attributed the maltreatment of the child to the way she was treated by her madam. So she visited the cruelty of the mother on her child.
If it’s true that you can’t do without a house help because of your tight schedule and having children to cater for, then get a member of your family or from your husband’s side to help you.
They are better because you know their root and secondly their’s no chance that they can seduce or be seduced by your husband (that’s also an issue). And if you don’t have such family member who is ready to help, relate to the professional house help you get well and remember not to establish over-familiarity with her. You can buy clothes for her and “tip” her when necessary. You can also ask about her family, even if you don’t care, also try to get close to her so you can know what she can do, and cannot.
Also, treat your house maid like a human because she’s one, although I have to add that a possessed house maid will rebel no matter how nice you are to her.
