A child is never too young to learn, according to research, a baby can develop at a very fast rate in his first year if he is given a good foundation in learning.
And that’s because babies are naturally curious beings, so working on their inquiring minds is not just healthy but also interesting for them. To fuel your baby’s burning desire to learn and explore the world around him, use some play-based activities. Here are some of the best ways to introduce your child to learning:
1. Ask a lot of questions
You do know that some kids start school without being able to answer even the easiest questions. And that’s because some children were never given the opportunity to answer simple questions at home. So when they finally get to school and they are asked questions, they’ll withdraw into their shell, because they’re not confident enough to answer. Prepare your child for school by asking questions, let them know how to answer the “why ” “what” and “how” question. Like “What is your name…?” When your child is playing ask these questions not after.
2. Pencil grip
Knowing how to grip the pencil before he starts school is good for your child. As early as age 3, train them how to hold the pencil correctly. It requires a lot of practice, patience and encouragement though, I have to tell you. Start training them how to hold a pencil by showing them and then use their hands to write, wjen they are getting the hang of it, let them try writing some things on their own.
3. Opt for lowercase letters
Teach your child how to write in lowercase letters (small letter) first. You do know that it’s only at the beginning of a proper noun or sentence that uppercase letters (capital letter) are used. Which means if you teach your child how to write in capital letters first, then the teacher will have to “undo” everything you have taught your child. Teach your child how to write in small letters.
4. Count forward and backward
Teaching your child how to count is important in preparing your child for school. And it can be fun to teach. In your day to day activities, you can teach your child how to count forward and backward, this will really help them in their Math class when school starts. Kids should also realize that numbers don’t end at 100
5. Tying shoelaces
You might wonder where the connection is, teaching your child how to tie his/her shoe lace will help them develop fine motor skills and muscles in the hand which will help them with their grip of the pencil and also boost their independence.
6. Celebrate your child’s learning progress
This is a totally new idea and I love it. Your child needs to know that the small milestone he’s making in the learning process is appreciated, post pictures of him working on his studies and the things he has written on every corner of the house.
And lastly, you need to be a part of your child’s life, as a parent, you are the first teacher your child has, be a good role model. Do not just inform your child, but guide them also.
