Barack Obama Shares Parenting Tips

Obama Mamalette

Barack Obama may be the president of the United States, but for Sasha and Malia Obama, he’s just Dad.

The US president has always been very open about fatherhood and parenting.

This is because, President Obama knows firsthand the power that fathers can have in the lives of their children, and the challenges families and communities face without committed fathers.

Now he offers some simple advice for raising kids.

“You give them unconditional love, and then you give them some structure and some rules, and they usually turn out really, really well,” Obama said in an interview that aired on CNN.

Obama said he and his wife Michelle were big believers in giving their daughters Malia, now 16, and Sasha, 13, chores.

“As soon as they can understand words, you start giving them some assignments,” he said in the interview.

“Bath. Eat your peas, pick up the toys off the floor. By the time they’re 16, they turn out pretty good, although they don’t always give you as much time with them as you want,” he said.

Obama has said in the past that he worries about “getting in the way of the girls just having a normal life” and said he has taught them to make good decisions about relationships.

“What I’ve told them before is, as long as that young man is showing you respect, and is kind to you, then I’m not going to be hovering over every second,” he said last year.

“I think it’s intimidating enough to be asking out the daughter of the president without me adding to that intimidation factor,” he said.
