In Nigeria superstitions and myths are passed on from one generation to another.
But what never ceases to amaze me about superstitions is how the ancient people came up with it, and what exactly was going through their head. And is it actually real or is it just a false story?
I don't believe in superstitions, and so if you don't believe it, I believe you are immune to the effects.
A Mamalette asked this question on our platform
"My baby's upper teeth is coming out before the lower teeth, please is there any spiritual implication to that, and has any mum experienced this before"
Ah well....Our Mamalettes responded and these are a few of their responses
Some experienced Mamalettes gave an insight into what they believe it means and what should be done......
"No any spiritual implication, but always warn him or her not to use the mouth to curse anyone, just like the way my mummy always caution me before I got married, because whatever he or she says, shall come to pass. But our God is a merciful God that cancels evil words."
Feyishola Balogun Abe
"My baby is like that too. I was afraid too when I first saw it because Yoruba has a deep meaning attached to it. But come to think of it if a baby's teeth is being removed, because of negative speech what about the positive ones that the baby will say, I had to advise myself because I can't afford to take my baby to any fetish place in the name of neutralising the power of the upper teeth as Yoruba use to do, "abegi" it's all about training your child well, calm down dear poster, God gave you that baby for a purpose which must be fulfilled and not to be disturbed, "abeg" take good care of the baby o, either upper or lower teeth, "dem no dey sell baby 4 market."
Bukola Olawale
"My second baby her upper teeth grows 1st before the lower ones. Some women said she is a prophetess that when she grows whatever she says will come to past."
Tessy Agbaza
"You are right it's all about training, my mum told us that we shouldn't curse any one, cause someone among us brought upper teeth first. But what I know is that she never disclose the person among us. She kept it to herself."
Aremu Olayinka Mamah
"In yoruba land is not good bcos they believe if d child bless or curse someone it will come 2 pass, my dear just keep it 2 urself or better still use hand 2 rub it down and let d baby grew a new one if u're afraid of it."
Bamidele Odunayo
An optimistic Mamalette said it's a good sign.....
"Growing the upper teeth before the lower teeth is a sign that your child is unique gift from God that will excel in speech and will make people happy in a unique way that is not seen in our everyday life.
But you need to teach him/her in the way of the Lord as the devil will always like to snatch that gift and use it negatively."
Elijah-akinropo Ogunsumi
While some Mamalettes do not believe this ''theory''
"Is your baby a spirit? Why will you link it's teeth to spiritual meanings? Are you not a christian? No matter your religion though, we are now in a civilized eraWhate superstition no longer rule peoples' minds. Relax and glorify the Lord for your baby is positively progressing."
Okwudinjo Jideonugiaka
"Every child is different in their own unique way, this is just fallacy joor. Even if it has spiritual implication, does it make the child less human?"
Francisca Nnamani
Some Mamalettes adviced that she keep the knowledge to herself, to guide against evil manipulation....
"I expect you to keep this to yourself, afterall the baby is doing well, will you be happy if anyone says something negative to your child, madam please stop looking for what is not lost."
Agbedina Raliat IY
"You should keep this to your self!!! You know the wicked world we live in. God bless your baby."
Gladys O Sawy
Whatever you do, keep this to yourself, like Mamalettes have said, making this known to everyone might expose your child to all forms of evil manipulation which you can't even begin to contemplate. Also teach your children, not just him to be positive, never to curse or abuse anyone. And this, is the summary of what all Mamalettes have said.
