All You Need To Know About Cystitis; A Condition That Affects Most Women

Cystitis is a urinary tract infection, or ''inflammation of the urethra or bladder’'. If you’ve ever had it, you’ll know it’s not fun.

Is your cystitis back again? You are not alone. When it's recurring, you would do anything put a stop to it finally. The good news to women who have recurring cystitis is this; there's a lot of things you can do about it. From my short research, I found out that some little tips that can be used in preventing and treating it.

#1. See your doctor

Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and ask for professional advice on whether you need drugs so as to see the end of this infection. And I'm sure they can give you some advice on how to avoid contacting it again.

#2. Take a cranberry supplement

Scientific research has shown that cranberries help in promoting the urinary tract health and have been proven to be very useful in treating urinary issues. There are a lot of cranberry products, it's rare in Nigeria here, but they sell cranberry juices in super markets. Cranberry contains PACs which helps in preventing bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract wall and to flush out any bacteria from the urinary tract. If you can get cranberry fruit, extract the juice and drink it. It's the best for treating urinary tract infection. You can get cranberry supplements.

#3. Live healthy

Some useful tips to try:

  •  Increase your water intake to at least 8 glasses of water a day and urinate often to flush out toxins from your body
  • As soon as you are pressed, don't hold your pee and completely empty your bladder when you are urinating.
  • After using the toilet, wipe from front to back and practice good hygiene to prevent bacteria from entering the bladder walls.
  • Before and after sex, clean up well and urinate.
  • Wear cotton pants and avoid tight fitting jeans so your body and skin could have some air.
  • Once in a while, wear loose fitting clothing and underwear.

#4. Eat healthy

It is advised that you add some of these into your diet

  • Eat more of vegetables, and add colourful fruits and salads to your meals.
  • Take natural yogurts and fermented vegetables these are great sources of prebiotic and probiotic foods
  •  Besides drinking water regularly, drink herbal teas especially ones containing Nettle leaf
  •  Make fresh juices from vegetables such as lemon, beetroot, ginger and celery.

Avoid taking alcoholic drinks and caffeine, it's likely they irritate your digestive system and make you dehydrated. Take greens in your salads, juices and snacks.

I'm doing some of the above and this is because I really do not want to have another urinary tract infection so I'd do anything to stop it.
