We want to say a very big thank you to all those unappreciated mothers out there. Every day we see mothers who are mothers, pass them by without stopping to acknowledge and appreciate them for what they have gone through as mothers.
You've seen her. She's the mother and wife who wakes up before day breaks to get her kids fed and ready for school, prepare 3 different soups for her husband. She's the mother who works 48 hours in a week at her job during the day, and will still come back home to cook dinner for her family and help her kids out with their home work.
She also is the mother who hasn't bought a new set of clothes in months, just so she can make sure her kids have clean clothes on their flesh, the last person to eat the meal she cooks and almost never care if she doesn't look good as long as her kids are okay. She cleans the house, shops in the market, picks up her children in school, gives her husband some good sex, works at being a good wife and mother and yet never complains.
You've met her. She’s your daughter, your mother, your child’s best friend’s mom, that woman you passed in the market in a hurry, you see her in the mirror every morning. She’s everywhere.
Although mums are behind the shadow of the most important people in the world, moms rock.
When the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was interviewed he said
“When we were small, what we used to do to get by … was that we used to go to our neighbours’ houses … to clean the dishes, fetch water, do hard chores. So you can imagine what a mother had to do to raise her children, what she had to go through. There are hundreds and thousands of mothers like that … mothers who’ve sacrificed their entire lives for their children. A mother never cares what you become. She cares how you become that.”
Mothers sacrifice a lot for their children, a mother would endure a bad marriage because of her children, a mother will keep a bad job just because it takes care of the children's needs. The word sacrifice may sound dirty because no one wants to give up their lives for their children, so I've decided to call it a choice because I choose to make my children my priority. And yes that's sacrifice too but with a different name (choice).
All mums out there make a choice, choosing their children over so many other things. Yes I know there are times that I try to have some "me" time for myself, when I feel boneless and tired and all I want to do is watch my favourite movie, ignoring the fight and screaming of the children. Yet being a mum is what I do best, and if I didn't love being a mom I would have quit, I wouldn't be trying so freaking hard.
Prime Minister Modi acknowledged his mum's impact in his life, yet there are thousands and millions of moms out there who have no one to recognise their sacrifice for their children, whose hard work go unnoticed, unappreciated and unseen, whose husband do nothing more than nag them despite all their efforts.
Yet that doesn't stop us from being mothers because that's what we are, and that's what we do, we keep the world going. Mothers who never slumber, a big thank you to you all!
xx
