I’m sure you’ll often wonder why your child sometimes cover their face when you say or do something, it’s not always out of shyness, they’re probably just embarrassed. At my 7-year-old son’s end of the year party last year, he was given gifts in school, as he went out to collect his prize, I started dancing to the music, when he turned back and saw me dancing, he frowned his face and I was like “What!” He probably thought I was dancing like a toad, and in front of his friends too.

Whether you know it or not, there are a number of things parents do that their kids find embarrassing, and here are 8 of those things;

1. Public Displays of Affection

When your boy begins to sees himself as the big boy in school, a public display of affection like a kiss on the head or cheek, especially in front of their friends in school is certainly not acceptable.

2. Using Pet Names

I love calling my daughter “catty” and she’s okay with it, she, in fact, likes it, but then, her friend came around and I called her “Catty” Her friend started laughing, and she my daughter gave me a cold look. That day, I learnt that kids don’t like being called their pet names in public, oops! my bad.

3. Dressing

Dress well and your child will be ready to show the whole world her mum, but dress shabbily on an outing together and she’ll avoid people tagging you as her mom. Not her fault, though, she is too young to realise that the salt of a mother is not in her looks.

4. Posting on Social Media

Is your child on social media yet? If he’s on Facebook, keep commenting on his posts, no matter how sweet your comments are, he’ll find them embarrassing and probably delete you. No hard feelings ma’am.

5. Dancing

Yeah! When you are happy and excitedly digging that dance step thinking you’re doing great, she’ll be there wondering what planet and age you came from for your dance to be that rusty. She’ll probably cover her face for you in embarrassment, those children hehn!

 6. Any talk of “Sex”

Is your child 10 and you want to have a sex talk with her? Goodluck with that mamalette! She’ll definitely be embarrassed having that kind of a talk with the mother that gave birth to her. If your husband has a sex talk with your son, ask him what the outcome was! Same both ways dear.

Mamalette! What did you do or say that your child felt embarrassed about?
