If you’re like me, you probably smell yourself down there occasionally, and if I smell anything fishy or stinky, I freak out! I know it might just be a signal of infection , besides, my husband hates me smelling funny. No amount of persuasion would make him do a smelly …..
So if you find yourself smelling funny down there and you eat healthy, clean up well and change your undies everyday yet the smell is there, there might be some other explanation for it. If you’ve checked with your doctor and have ruled out infection, here are some other reasons you might be having vaginal odour.
1. You are allergic to condoms
If you’ve been using a particular brand of condom when the odour starts, you might want to switch to another condom and see if the smell persists. You might be allergic to certain materials in a particular brand of condom.
2. Douching
Douching involves washing or cleaning of the inside of the vagina with water or other mixtures of fluids, these can be bought in supermarkets. Some women douche so as to get rid of bad odour and clean up after menstruation. But douching can mess with the pH levels of the vagina, get rid of the good bacteria and cause a large amount of bad bacteria to grow causing strong odour. Women trying to conceive have been warned not to douche.
3. Physical activities
If you sweat a lot and quickly yet you engage in physical activities that make you sweat almost all the time, you can smell down there. Also, women who exercise a lot and everyday can smell musky due to the mixture of sweat with heat.
4. Tight undies
Wearing cotton and lose pant is the best for women, as wearing tight undies can make your vagina to sweat and if that happens, it leads to vaginal odour.
5. Wearing underwear to sleep
After a long sweaty day, you ought to take a cool bath and sleep in the nude so your vagina can get some fresh air. Yet bedtime is the only time you can air your vagina and let out all the sweat you got in there during the day.
6. Scented body wash
Even if you don’t douche, if every time you wash your body with scented soap, you wash your vagina with it too, it can cause vagina odour.
7. Excess pubic hair
Pubic hair is okay, if well trimmed and short but excessive pubic hair can trap the smell of the vagina in it, besides, when menstruating, the blood can get stuck in the hair and you might not wash it off properly thus bringing off bad odour. Personally, I don’t like being bald down there, so I just trim it. You can shave, trim, or wax it.
