While adults know the importance of hygiene, children don’t. They often forget to wash their hands after using the toilet and this is a direct call on infections if they eat with that dirty hand. Whether it’s laziness, nonchalance or forgetfulness these kids find it hard to clean up after using the toilet but we as adults know the implication of lack of hygiene which is why we have to encourage them to wash their hands after using the toilet.

And here are some of the things you can do to ensure that your child wash their hands always;

1.  Make the sink accessible to them

The sink might be higher up and they might not be able to reach it, you can build a step or place a bowl on the floor and instruct them to wash their hand in it.

2. Constantly remind them

Kids can run out the toilet ready to get back to their food or play so you have to remind them constantly while they are in there. And with time they will always remember.

4. Make up a song

Make up a song that’ll talk about hygiene and why it’s good that they clean up always. The song is what they’ll remember even when you are not around them to clean up after using the toilet.

5. Let them make bubbles

While they are washing, encourage them to make bubbles with the soap, this will keep them longer at the sink so they can wash thoroughly and trust them to always want to wash their hands because playing with bubbles is fun.

6. Explain the importance of good hygiene to them

Sometimes all you need is explain things to your kids and they’ll get a better view of it. Tell them that not washing their hands properly can make them sick. This might motivate them to spend a good 2 minutes running the tap and washing their hands.
