If you hate your job and you’re already planning on getting another one, you might think your actions are coded and no one in your office can suspect that you are making moves towards a career advancement, what you don’t know is, through some of your actions, your boss might already know you’re quitting (exing) soon.

You are most likely unconsciously giving your boss subtle hints that you are quitting soon and this isn’t based on “hear say”, this is based on the research done by Researchers Timothy M. Gardner of Utah State University and Peter W. Hom of Arizona State University. They interviewed hundreds of employees and managers and pulled together a list of over 900 “tells” which they then narrowed to 116 and then 13 behaviors employees exhibit before they quit.

Here are 12 out of the 13 signs that’d hint your boss you’re quitting soon;

1. Your work productivity has reduced more than usual.

2. You are acting less like a team player than usual

3. You are doing very little work more often than usual

4. You are not interested in pleasing your boss

5. Your attitude towards work and everyone has changed negatively

6. You put less effort into work and you aren’t motivated at all

7. You frequently leave work early with excuses than usual

8. You have lost enthusiasm to pursue the mission of the organisation you work for

9. You frequently express dissatisfaction with your current job (Maybe they heard you telling someone)

10. You keep telling your supervisor or colleague about your dissatisfaction with your work

11. You have been reluctant to commit to long-term timelines than usual.

12. You show less interest in job-related matters

You were probably expecting a list that goes like “Leaving a CV on the printer”, “sending your CV on work laptop”, “caught checking job search sites” or stuffs like that but you don’t need to do all these before your boss finds out. If you are often grumbling to your colleagues at work or less dedicated to work your boss is reading your body language and sio everything you said and didn’t say are known.

The problem with your boss knowing you’re about to quit is, if he or she finds out you’ve been less productive than usual, they’d kuku ma fire you and if you’ve not got yourself a new job, that’s a problem, careful not to make these mistakes.
