5 Warning Signs Of A Pregnancy Miscarriage

Pregnancy brings out a woman’s worst fears, most pregnant women are always careful not to do things that might put the safety of their baby in danger.

Most miscarriages occur during the first trimester, when a mother has not even revealed to anyone that she is pregnant. Most often when a woman loses her pregnancy, she won’t talk about it. Out of every four pregnancies, one will result in a miscarriage. While most of these women know they’re pregnant, some don’t.

When a woman loses a pregnancy she feels the loss; the loss of the little life growing inside of her, the loss of her joy, and that hollow, empty feeling in her womb.

Therefore when she becomes pregnant again, she becomes afraid she will lose it again, afraid the pregnancy will end in loss and grief again instead of ending as a source of joy to her.

If this is your fear, here are some warning signs to look out for, and these signs might be nothing or something, the only way to be sure if you have had or are experiencing miscarriage is to be examined by your doctor.

1. Heavy Bleeding

Bleeding is very common during pregnancy, and most moms complain that they spot blood while pregnant, while this may not be a signal of something negative, you need to know that bleeding is the most common sign of miscarriage. This is why you should be checked by your doctor to see if something is wrong.

2. Passing pink mucus or tissue

If you notice you are passing blood clots or grayish tissue from the vagina, you may be experiencing a miscarriage. This means that your body is passing out the fetal tissue and if the pregnancy is long gone, you might see the embryo or foetus come out from your vagina. If this happens the woman needs medical aid immediately. If she has had an incomplete miscarriage (when some of the pregnancy tissue remains in the uterus) a D&C operation might be performed on her to bring out the pregnancy tissue remaining in the uterus, as leaving it there can lead to infection.

3. Pain or cramping in the center of the lower abdomen or back

For pregnant mothers having back ache and being occasionally uncomfortable is normal, but if your pain persists and is beyond normal and is stronger than your menstrual pain, then you should see a doctor. But, severe cramps or cramps accompanied by continuous or increasing bleeding can be a sign that you’re miscarrying and if you are having cramps and bleeding at the same time it might be a sign that you are having a miscarriage.

4. Sudden decrease in signs of pregnancy

Although a change in hormone levels can cause the loss of pregnancy symptoms, it may also indicate a miscarriage. But if you feel funny after waking up one morning and your pregnancy symptoms are gone, it’s easier to blame it on the hormones but it’s better you see your doctor.

5. Painful contractions

Your body will contract to expel the contents of the uterus, and may pass large blood clots and tissue. While this is happening you will be feeling pains and cramps in your lower abdomen. If you’re experiencing painful contractions between 5 to 20 minutes apart, this could be a sign of premature labor. Find out the causes of miscarriage here.

If you notice any of the above symptoms go to the hospital, and although nothing can be done to save your baby after your body has expelled the fetal tissues, it’s important to see your doctor. If you are still in the early stage of your pregnancy when it happened then it’s likely your body expel all the fetal tissues, but if you are long gone and your body does not expel all the tissue you will require further medical procedures to stop the bleeding. Your doctor will help prevent infection by performing a dilation and curettage (D&C) operation on you to bring out the remnants. Find out when you can start trying for a baby after miscarriage.
