Leaving your child behind everyday is something you would rather avoid if you can, but since you have little choice the best way to be at peace wherever you are is knowing you left your child in safe hands and your child is going to be taken adequate care of. And that means you have to find a good daycare that'll provide your child the best environment for socializing, learning and safety.

Finding the right daycare for your child can be stressful though you will want one that is close to your house (convenient), and one with security, you can talk to family, friends or neighbours to recommend some daycare centres to you. But you need a list of exactly what you want in a daycare so as to sort out the various recommendations that'll be given to you. Here are things to consider when choosing a daycare centre;

1. Ratio of teacher-to-child

If the number of babies are much more than the teachers then the teachers might have too much on their hands to be able to give each child the attention they need. Children need constant supervision so any anomalty can be quickly detected and taken care of but if there are like 30 babies and only 4 teachers how do they cope with all of their needs? Pop into the prospective daycare and check the teacher to child ratio.

2. Environment

Baby's immune system is yet immature so a dirty environment isn't at all ideal for your baby, to know how clean the daycare usually is, you should go there around afternoon when things would have gotten a bit rough and see how clean the environment is. Not only that, notice how warm the teachers are to the kids, do they love them? The teachers should also be learned so as to be able to engage the kids with educational stories and what ever else.

3. Safety and Security

At some point, especially towards the end of the year, kidnapping activities is usually rampant, is the daycare centre ready for the worse? Do they have good security such as CCTV and codes to ensure the parent who dropped the child is the one that picks him up? And as for safety, are there staffs equipped with knowledge of CPR and do they have first aid? What plans have they put in place in case of lost children, fire and other accidents?

4. How they handle the milk

If you intend to be pumping at work and taking the expressed breast milk to the daycare center you'll have to monitor how they handle the breast milk. This is the feed that goes straight into your child's mouth and therefore has to be clean and handled neatly. Not only that, ask if the daycare has rules about breast milk. Like some daycares require that you bring milk in bottle and don't accept frozen milk in milk bag.

5. Learning and development

It's also important to find out if the daycare center fosters learning both socially and educationally. Do they engage the babies? How?
