During this harmattan period, I look at people and they are white. And you know girls now, we like to form funky, doing our girlish things not minding that we’re looking white, that’s what the weather does to us.
When it comes to your appearance, there’s always a quick solution like packing vaseline and rubbing it on your body but you may want to nourish yourself inside out. The perfect time to nourish our skin, adjust our diet with foods that will keep our dry skin in good condition is during this harsh weather. And here are a few foods to eat during this weather;
1. Salmon
Salmon, Titus and other oily fish taste better and can be used for various dishes when it comes to cooking. These oily fishes are good for our skin, they contain Omega-3 fatty acids which helps in nourishing our skin and lock in the moisture while also ironing out the wrinkles. Seafood such as mackerel and tuna are also very good for your skin.
2. Avocado
Most face creams that we use contain vitamin E and it’s a vital ingredient, so I have the honour of telling you that you can get as much of the nutrient as you delight from avocado. Vitamin E has the natural moisturizing properties that boosts your skin protection against harmful UV rays that can toughen out your skin. Also, leafy green vegetables and nuts will boost the level of Vitamin E in your system.
3. Spinach
Spinach which the Yoruba call “amunututu” is a nutrient-filled vegetable that we should add to our meal, and it’s not just good for adding flavour to our meal but also contains a high level of Vitamin B and A which helps to hydrate your skin and give it protection against harsh weather conditions. If you can get kale leave it’s also good. But the taste is ew sha.
4. Egg
If you suffer from dry skin, it helps if you can take some extra minutes to boil or poach an egg every day. Eggs are rich in protein and lutein which helps to regenerate the skin and also keep it hydrated and graceful. Not only that, you can try a facial mask with egg white.
5. Coconut oil
Coconut oil has a lot of functions, works for the hair and skin too. So if you suffer from dry skin, you might want to buy some for yourself. Coconut oil highly contains anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties, whether applied directly on the body or used in cooking meals. When cooking, consider using coconut oil instead of the regular cooking oil.
Mamalettes you or your household shouldn’t be found looking white this harmattan period, make use of these foods and rock the season looking “moisturized” heh heh. Enjoy the weather y’all!
