5 Things That Are More Important Than Breastfeeding

Anytime I hear people arguing about breastfeeding and condemning those that are not breastfeeding their baby, I just wonder at the foolishness of man. We engage in discussions that won’t actually add to us at the end, judging people’s decision because it differs from our own.

When my friend kept disturbing me about why I didn’t breastfeed my last born, I told her I didn’t breastfeed any of my children and when she looked surprised and I told her I have my reasons, she was probably expecting that I would explain further but I left her hanging.

Let her think whatever she will I thought mischievously in my mind. Do they even realise that there are many other things that they should be worried about besides breastfeeding? And here are those other things;

1. Is your baby getting enough to eat?

Your baby might be feeding but not gaining healthy weight. So if your baby is not gaining weight at a healthy rate then formula is a great alternative. Breastfeeding is not a miracle medicine that will ultimately fill your baby even if he’s not getting enough.

2. Is your baby healthy?

The idea is that breastfed babies are healthier than formula fed babies. If you really don’t have any other choice than formula feeding your baby then there are other ways to make sure that your baby eats healthy. Make sure she takes all her vaccination, take her out for a splash of sunlight, help her eat healthy, and when she needs medical care, see your doctor. There are tons of other ways to see to of your baby’s well-being.

3. Is your baby safe?

Does your baby sleep right? Is your house safe for your baby to dwell in? Is the daycare she stays at safe? If you breastfeed your baby and don’t check if she’s safe, breastfeeding doesn’t guarantee her safety.

4. Is your baby loved?

You could be breastfeeding your baby and yet neglect to give her all the love and attention that she needs, but you could be formula feeding your baby and win the award for the best mom in the world.

Breastfeeding alone is not the only way to show love, so show your child the love and care they need and remember that the only way to bond with your child is not through breastfeeding.

5. Are you happy?

The happiness of the parent will determine how happy the child will be too. If you are truly happy, making your child happy will come naturally to you without too much effort. Meanwhile, breastfeeding your baby doesn’t automatically mean you are happy.

Let’s not always delude ourselves with self-righteousness, the way you do your things isn’t always the best and only way to do it. Never forget that, let the important things take the lead, breastfeeding only last a while (highest 2 years) but you have forever to love and care for your child. Never forget that!
