We read news of how house maids abuse the children in their care, oftentimes, these children hide marks of physical abuse and so you might not actually know that anything is happening to them in your absence.
But as we have devilish housemaids so also we have children who are tricky, they’ll inflict pain on themselves and blame it on the maid, in fact, every single mishap in the house is blamed on the maid, naturally, you’ll be inclined to believe your children over your maid, how then do you know who is lying and who is for real?
1. Study your child
If your child who you leave with the maid is always crying when you get back from work, study your child. If he’s the clumsy type that easily get bruises from falling down, then he might have some slight marks on his legs and thighs which he got from a fall.
If your child is always crying about slight injuries even when he knocks his leg against the table, you know you have a child that whines for attention.
Don’t pay much attention to his whining unless the crying continues for a long time, when he sees that he’s getting little or no attention at all, he’ll stop. If he doesn’t stop crying after you kiss the hurting part, and it’s still painful, then;
2. Look for Signs
There are other telltales signs you’ll find on your child if he’s been abused, not that you’ll strip your child naked every night and inspect their body, I’m saying you should give your child a bath every night. This will reveal any blue, black, or red mark which is a sign of physical abuse.
When babies are shaken in anger, this might lead to shaken baby syndrome, never overlook it. Your baby might not be able to focus on an object, he’ll seem glassy-eyed, rigid, and irritable, his appetite might decrease, and he might be vomiting. Seizures, heart failure, and difficulty breathing are the other signs you should watch out for.
If you find any signs of abuse on your child, how do you prevent such from leading to the loss of your little one or how do you confirm your suspicion?
3. The Hidden Camera
This helps you know exactly what is happening in the house when you’re not home. Your maid might be aware of the fact that she’s being watched but she shouldn’t know where the camera is installed.
Better still you can connect the camera at home to your work camera so even from work, you ca see what’s happening at home, and probably call her up when she does something unacceptable just so she knows you’re watching.
4. Surprise Visits
When you are least expected, you or your spouse can pop in, so your maid knows you can come in anytime, and this will restrict her behaviour.
5. Treat her well
If you’re mean to your maid, she might vent out her frustration on your kids, your kids are always with the maid, if you act rash to her she has the power to kidnap your kids and run (God forbid!) or something wicked like that. And you can only talk to who you see, treat your maid the way you’d like her to treat your kids.
When you suspect that your maid is abusing your kids, let her go. It’s better you listen to your guts that something is wrong than to wait until when things have gone awry. A mother’s instinct is strong, trust it.
