Burning belly fat after having a baby can be a hard task to achieve, it’s just so hard to start dieting and exercising. Exercising is especially hard, how do you manage waking up at 4 to run when you have three kids to prepare for school?

Yet, you are ever so embarrassed when someone wants to call you inside the market, not knowing your name they call “Mama Ibeji!”, you look at your belly and wonder “Is it that big?” Angrily, you eye the annoying person that called you the name and leave.

I admit, belly fat makes most women self-conscious about their body, especially when you undress. To burn off the excess fat on your belly here are a 5 steps to do it;

1. Breastfeed

If you are still breastfeeding your baby it will be a little bit easier for you to lose weight. Many mums have testified that breastfeeding helps them to lose weight after pregnancy. And why is that, you ask? When you breastfeed, your uterus goes back to it’s normal size, which causes your tummy to appear smaller.

2. Eat The Right Foods

Eat right, that’s the key. Even if you are breastfeeding and you are still eating junk, you might still not lose the weight. Junk and processed foods will only cause you to gain extra weight around your stomach, these foods are bad for you so avoid them. Eat the right food, they’ll help you lose weight and burn stomach fat too. Eat more of vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fruits and lean protein. Not only does eating right help you reduce belly fat, it also give you all the necessary nutrients.

3. Drink Less Alcohol

Lots of people think alcohol helps in burning fat, yet the reverse is the case. Drink less alcohol if you have to, sugary, carbonated drinks can also make you gain extra weight. Alcoholic drinks and sugary beverages are also not good for your liver. And don’t think drinking low-sugar drinks will help, it won’t.

4. Exercise Your Whole Body

When you are exercising, target all parts of your body instead of concentrating on your tummy or one part of the body alone. Doing this is dangerous, as it can make you become unbalanced. When you exercise, target all your body parts and burn fats all over. At the end, your stomach fat will be burned too.

5. Do not eat heavy food late at night

I know it will be asking for too much to say don’t eat at night since that’s the time of the night when most people get to eat better food. Plan your routine to make sure you eat breakfast (preferably wheat) and lunch so that when you eat light at night it will be okay. Most women eat amala, semo, eba or such heavy food at night. Even if you prepare it for your husband and kids. Take something light yourself, like pap or agidi. Meanwhile, noodles is not a light food o.
