Coming up with a big business idea isn’t something that just happens all the time. But the good news is that you can set up the right conditions so that mega idea pops in your head at the right time. Try some of these steps below and you never know, your next big business idea may be around the corner:
-
Read something you typically don’t read: All those books and magazines that you usually disregard could hold some piece of information that will bring you your next big idea. You never know where these things can come from.
-
Think about a problem you haven’t solved before you go to bed: If you can’t work on it consciously, you can force your subconscious to do the work, especially if those are the last things you think about before you sleep. When you fall asleep, your mind will continue thinking and something might just pop up.
-
Take a different route to work: When you drive or commute to work via the same routes, your brain does all that in ‘auto’ mode. However, when you change your route, you force your brain to think more, and when you think more – you get ideas. Just thinking about a different route to work alone could do the trick.
-
Talk to someone sitting next to you on the plane: Chances that the seat next to you on the plane will be empty are almost zero so instead of keeping to yourself for the entire duration of your flight, try to start a conversation with them. You never know, by the time the flight ends, you could have learnt something new.
-
Listen more than you talk: When you speak, you don’t hear or learn anything new. But when you listen, there is a higher probability that you will learn something new. Not every time talk, sometimes listen.
-
Exercise: Exercise is awesome for stimulating the brain, especially in unfamiliar environments. Walking (or running) outdoors in a different country you’re visiting is better than running on the treadmill of the same gym you have been using for the past two years. When you brain is stimulated like that, new ideas will emerge.
-
Turn off the TV, don’t check your email: Don’t put on your TV immediately after you wake, and don’t check your emails either. Take a moment, let your brain make connections between old ideas and create new ones.
-
Day dream: If you don’t have anything to do, don’t force yourself to do anything. Don’t try to use your phone to fill the void. Just day dream. It may seem like a waste of time when you consciously think about it but it is still plenty of work for your subconscious. And that’s when old ideas meet.
