1. What’s your name and title (please spell both)? What’s the name of your business?
‘My name is Moriam Omenai and I run The Baby Studio’
2. How long have you been in business?
‘We officially opened on the 13th of February 2016.’
3. What motivated you to start this business?
‘My motivation is my son and the need to help other mothers who try to balance motherhood, work and social life. I have always been a nurturer and after having my own child, being an aunty and having several babysitting jobs I realised that I had a passion for kids and that I needed to take it up as a lifetime career.
I felt the urge to contribute to the quality of childcare in Nigeria before babies are old enough to start school so I decided to take the risk of starting my own business, something new and fresh that caters to babies from 4months to 1.5years.
Also, after having a baby I was constantly seeking help from family and close friends to babysit my son. At some point I just stopped working and going out altogether because I didn’t want to burden others with my responsibility. Then I thought to myself that If I’m in this situation then there are certainly more mothers like me who want the best for care for their children but face the same motherhood struggles. That was when the idea came up.
Most parents don’t like leaving their babies at home alone with their nannies especially with all the scary stories you hear and even as technology is advancing i.e. CCTV we still want that human presence (usually family or trusted friends) to supervise/be present when our kids are involved. That’s where the Baby and Nanny Drop Center comes handy.’
4. Can you give a description of your business?
‘The Baby Studio doubles as a Baby and Nanny Drop Centre and retail store.
As mothers there are times we have business meetings/late working hours or we need to go to the salon or we have an event to attend, the Baby and Nanny Drop Center accommodates your baby and nanny so parents can carry out other activities for a few hours without having to worry about their baby.
The retail section sells baby items from birth up to age 4. In store we have carefully selected essentials that we believe will meets the needs of mothers-to-be as well as mothers and babies.
We aim to be Nigeria’s leading mother and baby specialist. Our products include clothing, footwear, home equipment which includes compact booster seats, feeding and bathing equipment, nappy bags, changing mats, toilet training products and gift items.’
5. What are you best known for and why (i.e. bestselling product, special service you offer, etc.)?
‘Our special service would be our Baby and Nanny Drop Center, which is the first in Nigeria and possibly the first in Africa.’
6. What sets your business aside from others in the field?
‘What sets us apart is our determination to introduce a new range of products and services to the Nigerian parent network. All parents want the best for their kids and some of these products are not available in Nigeria, well with us these products are now available, thereby saving parents the hassle of importing products, not to talk of the current banking Forex restrictions.’
7. Why should a customer choose your business?
‘Our passion to provide quality for mothers-to-be, mothers and most importantly our little ones.’
8. What keeps your customers coming back?
‘The standard and quality of service they receive and the quality of our products.’
