At twelve weeks pregnant, you’re in the last week of your third month of pregnancy. By now your baby bump will begin to become visible if you are pregnant with twins your baby bump would be more visible.

Your baby is about the size of an Agbalumo fruit about 5.5cm long and weighs around 14g. Your baby although very tiny is now fully formed. The head and neck are straightening up and your baby’s posture is becoming less curled up.

Your baby starts to practise breathing using amniotic fluid to prepare the lungs for air respiration. Your baby develops reflexes and starts to open and close its fingers, eyes and mouth.

Your baby’s kidneys also start excreting tiny amounts of urine. Your baby’s face now looks totally human, as the eyes have moved from the sides to the front of the face.

You are nearly at the end of your first trimester and so you may start to notice a reduction in the pregnancy symptoms you have been experiencing. But you could still experience heartburns because of the high levels of progesterone in your body.

Some of the symptoms you would experience at  12 weeks are:

  • Increased discharge
  • Spotting
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness

If you have yellow, greenish, pink, or brown discharge during pregnancy week 12, call your doctor right away. You can help prevent dizziness by snacking regularly and drinking plenty of water.

If you’re spotting or bleeding, definitely tell your doctor. If the bleeding is accompanied by cramping or the flow is heavy, it’s an urgent call.
