It's mango season in Nigeria and we can hear the joyous echoes reverberating across the country at the sight of these plum, juicy fruits.

Mango is a seasonal, tropical fruit which blooms during the rainy periods in Nigeria.

Rich in vitamins and nutrients, there are several species of mango which can be enjoyed alone or better yet, combined with other dishes/recipes.

So, rather than just eat plain old mango slices, here are 5 creative ways you can enjoy your mangoes this season.

 

Mangoes can be used to create a parfait of sorts (Mango)

 

1. With yogurt: To spruce up your yogurt and/or ice cream, you can add mango slices. Simply chop up your mangoes into little bits and drop them in your yogurt/ice cream for a healthier, different dessert option. You can also blend the mangoes before adding it to your ice cream/yogurt for a parfait of sorts.

2. As a popsicle: Blend mangoes up in a blender or food processor. Place them in ice cubes and freeze them up. This way you have your very own mango popsicle.

3. With breakfast: For a healthier, more colourful breakfast, dice up your mango into little bits and place them over pancakes, eggs or even bread, or puree them and use as a spread over bread.

4. As a salad: When all else fails, mangoes can always serve as a trusty salad. Feel free to get creative with the contents of your salad - black pepper lime garlic, avocados, pasta are just some of the things you can combine for your mango salad.
