For any new mom the most important thing to have when going out with your baby is a Diaper bag also known as a Baby Change Bag or Nappy Bag. A diaper bag is a storage bag with many pocket-like spaces that is big enough to carry everything needed by someone taking care of a baby while taking a typical short outing.
Every new mom knows that the diaper bag is a must have because it like a mini wardrobe for your baby. It usually comprises of everything you would need to change, feed and take care of your baby outside the comfort of your home.
Now that you have purchased that big fancy (because for the next year or more that bag is going to be your close companion so make sure it fancy) diaper bag, the next step is the essentials you would need to have inside your bag.
- Diapers- When taking care of a baby diapers can never be too much. It is suggested that depending on the amount of hours you intend to spend outside, you take 1 diaper for every 2 hours. Although I would advise that you have more than that available to avoid stories that touch.
- Wipes- Wipes are another must have when going out with your baby. Having a pack of wipes in your diaper bag will go a long way when changing for your baby. Wipes may even be useful for cleaning dirty surfaces, your hands or that of your baby when they make a mess.
- Foldable Changing Pads- Changing pads are useful when trying to change your baby’s diaper, you can just lay your baby on the pad instead of a cold hard surface. While some diaper bags come with foldable changing pads it doesn’t hurt to have one extra set with you especially a bigger pad and make sure you get a water resistant pad for easy cleanup.
- Cloth Napkins: These napkins will come in handy when you are burping your baby. Just throw it over your shoulder before burping your baby to make sure you don't get soiled in the process.
- Extra Clothes: Every mum will agree with you that having more than one extra set of clothes for their baby has helped them a lot. Babies make a lot of mess and so it is important to always have extra clothes that you can change them into
- Blanket- Having a soft cotton blanket that is also wearable will go a long way especially if the weather suddenly gets cold or if you baby is sleeping.
- Feeding Bottles- if you have expressed breast milk or formula for feeding your child, having feeding bottles in your diaper bag is good.
- Bibs- This is also essential to make sure that your baby doesn’t spill on his/her cloth during feeding.
You can also put in lotion and rash cream if necessary, having toys like a rattle, your child’s favorite teddy and a pacifier if your child uses one can go a long way. You should also have an hand sanitizer incase you don't have access to soap and water.
Sometimes carrying a full heavy diaper bag on one hand and a baby can be very overwhelming but don't get tempt.ed to remove this things. Because they would definitely come in handy and you would not want a situation whereby you don't have the things you need..
