Over the years there has been many myths and opinions that predict the sex of a child especially the one that has to do with cravings.

Sometimes experienced wives who have experienced childbirth will tell a pregnant woman she is feeling the way she feels because she  is going to give birth to a girl, or that she is loosing her hair because she is going to give birth to a girl.

Sometimes when people see the size of your tummy, they might say you are going to give birth to twins.

These and many more are the various predictions people make when they see a pregnant woman. Now the question is “can cravings predict baby gender?” Well, experts say that cravings are most likely the result of hormonal and metabolic changes that take place in a woman’s body and so research shows that cravings have nothing to do with determining the sex of a baby.

However, traditionally people say that the baby’s sex can be revealed based on the nature of the woman’s cravings.

During pregnancy, women might crave specific foods, consciously or unconsciously, as a response to emotional needs. Another explanation is that cravings serve as an early means of deciphering the baby’s sex as certain foods correlate to the sex of the baby.

A friend once told me that when she craves sweet things she usually give birth to a baby girl but if she craves food that is sour or not too sweet then she usually expect a boy. Can you believe this!

So, long before ultrasounds were common, moms wanted to know whether they were carrying a boy or a girl. During the many months of waiting to find out, they created many myths that they hoped gave clues as to the sex of their baby. One such old wives’ tale involves what mom craves during pregnancy. Take a look at this 7 myths

Myth #1

Is your skin is dry or soft? If your skin is dry, it is assumed that you are going to be having a boy child, and if it’s soft, then you are going to give birth to a baby girl.

Myth #2

Your hair. Has your hair become shorter and dull? Or full and shiny? If you have a short and dull hair during pregnancy then it is assumed you’re having a girl, but if your hair is full and shiny they say its a boy.

Myth #3

Carrying  high or low belly. If your belly is hanging  low or in front, you’re having a boy. But if it’s high or wide in the middle, then you’re having a girl.

Myth #4

Craving sweet, salty or sour food? This is another well known myth about the sex of a baby. Are you craving sweet foods like juice, fruits and chocolate? If so, old wives say that you could be having a girl. But if you’re craving sour or salty foods, then you could be expecting a baby boy.

Myth #5

Extra Weight? Even those extra pregnancy kilos are said to provide an insight into your baby’s gender! If you are carrying extra weight at the front, then you’re having a boy, but if you are carrying extra weight on your ass and hips, then you have been carrying a girl.

Myth #6

Got Morning Sickness? Did you experience morning sickness in early pregnancy? If you did, then you’re said to be carrying a girl, but if you didn’t have morning sickness, then it’s a boy. Oh! that one was so true for my friend.

These and all others like it are just myths, but some experienced wives do believe its true and as they say culture is king. So Mamalettes what do you believe, do you have any you would like to add ? What did you crave when you were pregnant and what sex did you give birth to?
