Children are definitely copy-cats, pick a day and observe your child, the way you talk, the way you walk, some slangs you use and even the faces you make are what they’ve already picked up unintentionally.

#1. Your phone manners

If you want to know how you look when you talk on phone, give your phone to your child, you’ll definitely laugh if you’re not prepared. “Heyo” with a serious face, “heh hehn…”  Don’t be surprised though, that’s a reflection of you. Even how we talk on phone is passed on to our children

#2. Making Reaction Noises

When your child is angry does she pout, sigh, or hiss? That’s you Mamalette! My child sighs when she’s angry, and she got that from me. And when I told her it’s bad, she replied “But mom, you do it too” yeah right!

#3. Body Shaming

If you look at yourself in the mirror often and say “I’m too fat” or “See how thin I look” don’t be surprised your child might pick up on these comments of yours and say them when they are in front of the mirror too. So even if you don’t like your body, keep it to yourself.

#4. Speaking to Others

If your child is polite, rude or bossy while talking to his mates, he got that from you. Listen to your child while playing with his mates to get how you communicate with others. Your child’s communication manners, mirrors you.

#5. Overreacting

Every child throws a tantrum but if your child is always fuming fire over nothing, then it’s partly you reflecting in your child. Next time when you want to get angry at nothing and fire up, remember your loyal disciple is watching and learning fast.

#6. Cursing

I agree that kids learn from school, church and their environment, but when your child is quick to say foul word, you are the primary source. And you don’t know the meaning of this until your child’s sister annoys her and she screams “Oloribuluku!” inside church (lol).

The point is, we are the book that our children read, let’s be careful what we say around them. It’s the wise thing to do.
