4 Things You Should Do Before Your Baby Comes “Home”

When you finally get your maternity leave some weeks before the baby is due to arrive so that you can have time to prepare for your baby’s homecoming, you might be unsure about what to do with all that time on your hands.

While other moms enjoy this time at home and make the most of it, not used to being at home, you might be at a loss for what to do from morning to night before baby arrives. If you find yourself pacing the house up and down and bored to the bone, here are a few things you can do;

1. Prepare the Nursery and Organise the House

If you have the plan to have a nursery for your child, clean up and prepare the nursery. While you are at that, take the time to organise the house. Scrub the bathroom, clean the kitchen, arrange the bedroom, move the things in the house around to make room for the new baby stuffs. Pack baby things, wash the clothes and prepare the linen. If you’re tired, and continue where you stopped later.

2. Prepare Some Home-Cooked Meals

The week before the baby comes, cook different dishes and keep them in the fridge so that while you’re at the hospital, all your husband has to do is microwave it and bring it to you. And the ready-made foods will also come in handy when you get back from the hospital.

3. Visit family and friends

Yeah, this is the time to see your in-law, your mother or your friend, you have to get out of the house and walk around. Besides the fact that working all day and waiting for the baby to come can make you go insane, also, going out is a good exercise for you. Make plans to see friends, make sure you go out for a walk every day.

4. Treat Yourself to a Nice Manicure or Pedicure

The nails of your leg are probably very long by now since you can’t reach your feet anymore while pregnant, this is a good excuse to tell your husband to cut your nails for you, or, you can go out and treat yourself to a nice manicure and pedicure. And if your vagina is all bushy and needs some shaving, which is a hard task to do while pregnant, you can get a bikini wax if it won’t cut into your budget too much.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of ways to pass the time and have some fun while doing it. Photo shoots, date nights with your boo, see some movies and try not to think about baby’s homecoming too much heh?

To say the truth, thinking of the upcoming labour, delivery and arrival of your little one can really be hard on a person. When the cleaning and household things are done, concentrate on pampering yourself and doing some “me” things as very soon it might be hard to do them.

How To Imbibe Good Oral Hygiene From An Early Age

Bring up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it is a very popular adage that is known by virtually everyone. According to Vanguard News, tooth decay affects nearly all adults and 60–90% of children worldwide, with toothache being the number one reason for absenteeism from schools in many countries. Yet it is largely preventable. In fact, studies show that just brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste can reduce tooth decay by up to 50 percent in children, compared with only brushing once a day.

According to What To Expect, Baby teeth are vulnerable to decay as soon as they break through the gums. The best line of defense is to brush regularly for two minutes at a time in the morning after breakfast and in the evening after bedtime snack.

Young children have poorly developed swallowing reflexes, and so they usually end up swallowing the large amounts of toothpaste they add to the brush even though they have been advised to use pea sized toothpaste when brushing for kids.

Health experts have conducted a long-term study to specifically measure the impact of building good brushing habits in young children and demonstrating the positive long-term impact of brushing day and night for two minutes, every day. Just two years into the study, children who were participating had already experienced a significant reduction in dental cavities.

The Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) also recommends that you brush your teeth twice daily using fluoride toothpaste for fresh breath and to avoid dental diseases such as tooth decay, swollen gums, bad breath, sensitivity and tooth stains.
